How does Live Coding Interview work for candidates?

We have listed down some essentials that would help you to appear for a Live Coding Interview session.

Live Coding Interview is a real-time face-to-face interaction with the interviewers wherein you can showcase your coding abilities assess with an in-built code editor. As a candidate, the below tips would help in experiencing a smooth session. 

Technical requirements

1. Pre-check your laptop/desktop for functioning mic and camera: Live Coding Interview will require a camera and a mic. Make sure that you join the session from a system that has both these in working condition. You can also perform a system check before joining the session.

2. Update to the latest browser versions: Live Coding Interview is supported on the latest Chrome and Firefox versions. 

What is a Live Coding Interview, and how does it work?

Live Coding Interview is an interactive face-to-face interview wherein you will be shown a problem statement to solve. You can start writing your logic in the in-built code editor, and once done, click Compile and Run to execute the code. The interviewers will be able to see your coding screen and ask you questions about your code snippets.

  • You can interact with the interviewers via text, audio, or video chat. 
  • You can change the coding language. However, if you change the code after writing a few lines, that code will be lost. 
  • You can change the editor and the themes from the settings.
  • If you want to test your code against your own input, you can click the Test against custom input. 
  • Run the code by clicking Compile & Run. The output will be displayed. 
  • The interviewers will be rating your skills on 5 parameters: code quality, technical communication, code optimization, code design, and problem-solving. These ratings are not visible to you.

    Q: How can I troubleshoot audio or webcam issues?

    A: Ensure that webcam and microphone permissions are enabled.

    If the issue arises in the middle of the interview, it might be due to connectivity issues. 

    Q: Can I copy-paste the code from my IDE?

    A: Yes. However, we recommend informing your interviewers about writing the solution in your own IDE and then copying it into the in-built editor.

    Q: My code has complied, and the status shows as Passed; does this mean I have passed the interview as well?

    A: No. The passed status is only for the compilation and indicates that your code has given the desired output. This does not indicate that you have passed the interview. 

    Q: If I get disconnected, can I login again, and what happens to my previously written code?

    A: Yes, you can log in using the same link. The written code is auto-saved every 30 seconds. When you log in, you can view your code. 

    Q: I am getting error for Compile and Run; what can I do?

    A: In case you get an error, please check your internet connectivity once. If the issue persists, please contact support@interviewmocha.com with your interview link.

    Q: What is the test against custom input?

    A: If you want to test your code's logic using your own input values, you can use Test against custom input options.

    Q: I am unable to view the question, what can be done?

    A: Most likely, this happens due to connectivity issues; please wait for some time for the questions to load. 

    Q: How many questions will be there? 

    A: This is not pre-defined and depends on the interviewer. Depending on the job role and skills to be evaluated, the interviewer can decide on the number of questions. 

    Q: Can I view the result of my interview?

    No. The results are available only to the interviewers.
